Popular messaging platform WhatsApp has introduced support for multiple accounts on Android devices. Users can now log in to two WhatsApp accounts simultaneously on a single phone.
WhatsApp Makes Managing Personal and Work Accounts Easier
This new capability eliminates the need to constantly log in and out when switching between personal and work accounts. In the past, people relied on carrying two phones or using unauthorized WhatsApp mods to use different accounts.
No More App Hopping: WhatsApp Adds Dual Account Support
To set up the dual accounts, Android users need either a second phone number and SIM card or a phone that supports dual-SIM technology. After installing a second SIM, users can enable the second account using following steps,
To configure the WhatsApp second account:
- Open WhatsApp and tap the three dots in the top right corner.
- Select ‘Settings’ and then go to ‘Account.’
- Tap ‘Add account’ and follow the prompts to set up the second account.
- Once set up, switch between accounts by tapping the three dots and selecting ‘Account.’
WhatsApp noted that messages and calls will only be end-to-end encrypted when using the official app from the Google Play Store. Downloading fake or modified WhatsApp apps could compromise privacy.
The dual accounts feature is rolling out slowly and may take some time to reach all Android users. For now, it remains limited to the Android platform. There is no word yet on when it might debut on iOS.
